Proofreading

Few things are more frustrating to readers than having the flow of their reading interrupted by typos, spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors. It can be hard to spot these things yourself if you’ve been spending a lot of time working on your manuscript (even proofreaders get their own work proofread!). An extra pair of eyes can therefore be critical in getting rid of those gremlins.

Our proofreading service will provide that independent set of eyes to ensure the reading experience is as “trip” free as possible. What’s more, if you purchase this service with your eBook conversion and you or your readers find something we missed, we will create a new version of the file absolutely free of charge.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Typos
  • Spelling errors
  • Grammatical errors
  • Punctuation errors (e.g. inconsistent use of speech quotes)
  • Obviously missing or duplicated words
  • Poorly applied or inconsistent tenses

Please note that proofreading isn’t the same as editing (though there is some overlap with copy-editing); decisions on things like characters, pacing and plot should be taken between you and your editor. Any inconsistencies we do spot (for example, a character’s age or description) will of course be highlighted.

proofreading reportTo ensure we don’t make any changes to your work without your explicit knowledge and approval, we will send you a report with all the proposed amendments for you to review. Once you are happy with the changes, we will include them in the final version of the eBook. Alternatively, if you provide us with your initial manuscript in MS Word, we can use the “tracking changes” feature to send you our recommendations which you can accept or reject as appropriate. We will work in whichever way suits you best!

Our prices for proofreading are competitive, so, if you require this service, feel free to add it to your order or, for more specific requirements, contact us to request a quote.
